I’ve known Eric for a number of years and can count on him to skate his ass off consistently. When the session dies down, he’s still trying to one-up himself.

We hope your 4th of July weekend was a blast! It’s my pleasure to introduce the first in a series of half hour, documentary style skating videos distributed online and available for free, exclusively through the Rolling Revival podcast. Our Video Producer Quinn Feldman has worked tirelessly capturing and editing the lives of five skaters. Each of which represents a unique kind of talent, diversity and style. Here’s what Quinn had to say about the feature.

The idea behind this series is that we’re all from different places and backgrounds, have different skill levels, but the common bond we share is we all go out and skate and have fun with our friends. These videos are spontaneous and unrehearsed days of skaters going out for the love of skating. My overall goal was to not only entertain our core audience but also to put a personality to the rollerblader. A lot of times we watch an edit and we recognize that the skater is good and we’re impressed but it doesn’t put a face on the skater.”
Featuring full days from: Anthony Williams (CA), Sean Knight (Canada), Mikey Blair (MI), Andrew Scherf aka Beef (AZ) and Ryan Googins (MN).

The video also includes skating from: Iain and Colin McLeod, Ranier Piramide, Michael Obedoza, Brett Dasovic, Brett Hammond, Jake Moreau, Jeph Howard, Quinn Feldman, Ryan Santos, Brian Weiss, Ryan Roux, DP, Chris Farmer and many more.

We at Revival recognize the responsibility to establish greater culture and vision within the skating community. As important as it is to focus on competitive feats, progress in rollerblading means not only looking to the future, but doing so with nostalgia for the past.

We’ve had a lot of fun over the years, and our hope is that every rollerblader gets to share in “the worldwide clique”. My thanks to Quinn for working so hard and producing something of a first in rollerblading videos. We’ll have a DVD ISO available tomorrow, so you can burn your own DVD copy and distribute this video all your own. Another first, in a history of firsts, only on Revival.

<itunes:summary>We hope your 4th of July weekend was a blast!

We'll have a DVD ISO available tomorrow, so you can burn your own DVD copy and distribute this video all your own. Another first, in a history of firsts, only on Revival.

While doing so myself and Harry Reavley decided to film my first afternoon on the skates to give you an idea of how they roll. I could have happily rambled on in nerdy fashion about small details but instead we decided to make it more fun to watch and let the action do most of the talking. Big shout out to Harry for coming up with a top level edit and getting it done in a day even if it took me a week to get it on the net!

Part of our job, here at Revival is bringing you great skating coverage from around the globe. Whether it’s in the form of a news style audio podcast or a video interview or profile, we’re always on the lookout for content our subscribers will enjoy. We didn’t have to travel very far to bring you this latest vidcast. It comes to us courtesy of one, Jeremy Soderburg and highlight’s a seriously dedicated talent named Anthony Gallegos.

Known as “Wiener” to his friends, Anthony has been rolling steady, with his own style and flair that we have yet to see anyone touch. As much as we love his skating, we’re even bigger fan’s of his humble and friendly persona. It’s rare to encounter a guy incredibly focused and intent on landing a tough switch up, but ready to laugh at himself should he miss. A great asset to the L.A. scene, we’ve been patiently waiting for Anthony to get a proper profile edit completed so we can give him some limelight. Impressing the hell out of everyone, no doubt, you’ll be seeing more of Anthony in the future. Music by Why? – The vowels pt 2. Enjoy kiddies!

It’s gonna take more than a hacked sever and procrastination to bring us down! Better late than never, Episode 51 marks the resurgence of our ever popular news and opinion audio shows. A lot has happened in rollerblading since Episode 50 w/ Dave Paine. We had so much ground to cover we thought it best not to have a guest. Instead we delve into the Franco Shade/Arlo split for clothing and softgoods news. Al’s hardware segment covers allot of ground with insights on the Rollerblade Estillo, the new Xsjado models and the highly anticipated Desi Carbon. We follow it up with the usual rants and raves, even going to far as to tip our hat to Collin Kelso for his “forthcomingness” on his relationhip with |B| Unique. All in all, a prety decent show, even if Tim and I had to share a mic.

2009 really is the year of renewed optimism and possibility for Revival. As change rolls over America, an unassuming addition to our small collective has given this show a serious shot in the arm. Quinn Feldman is as restless, as he is relentless about rolling. He’s skating better than ever, and yet, manages to seriously consider joining Revival as a new host and producer. We couldn’t be more exited to have him. When it came time for Quinn to consider what skaters he’d like to feature on Revival, one name came to mind, Iain McLeod.

Iain’s name shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of you. He’s a world renowned skater with over a decade of blading and a signature pro model boot under his belt. And yet, as you watch this video I dare you NOT to be surprised by his tech style and flawless execution. Were it not for his recent section in Shot from Dark, we’d be pulling out DVD releases from years past to renew our appreciation of Iain’s abilities. If you’ve ever wondered what go’s on in Iain’s head when he’s busy NOT falling you’ve come to the right place. Quinn sat down with Ian and friend Conner O’Brien, for a little one on one on what makes Ian tick. We hope you enjoy it, and we know you’ll be tuning in for even more rollerblading coverage on RollingRevival.com

We are back! Video episode number 47 people! Thanks to the camera work of Quinn Feldman we managed to capture a little look behind the scenes at Franco Shade in Santa Ana. It’s always nice to go down to see the guys, but with so much changing it was exiting to find out what was next for FRSH in 2009- We find out about the changes, the warehouse, the clothes and a bit about who is involved. We also have a video interview / skating clips of Iain McLeod coming in the next few days as Quinn interviewed him at Connor’s house a couple of days ago. The website is still being altered and updated but most thing’s are working now so we hope you keep an eye out for us now we are rolling again. Leave a comment, let us know what you think & what you would like to see next.

Thanks to Quinn, Joe and all the peeps as ever – don’t forget to check out their site at francoshade.com. Apollo mentioned Le-Mode and Exclusives which are both worth a look. Plus we can’t forget Arlo’s new brand Gost which can be found at gostbrand.com! The Beats in this video supplied by DickieBass. You can subscribe to the RSS feed or on iTunes links below, but we also have all the vidcasts on our youtube page if you prefer.

So as you guy’s can see we are working on finalizing our new website for 2009. Because technology can be horrible things break – especially when running a podcast. So we are working on fixing the feed but also giving you the option for a separate audio and video podcast. Still I am ironing things out while sitting in Adrian’s loft in downtown LA. It is fair enough for us to talk about a website or some new technology but people want content… and we have that for you too! Here is some proof for the non believers -

Myself and Quinn went down to Santa Ana to see Joe and the guy’s at Franco Shade and shoot a vidcast as well as skate. As you know may or may not know a lot has been changing at Franco so look out for the full low down. (Thanks a lot to Quinn for shooting the edit – and that fisheye you see is the old VG fisheye so you know it should be tight haha) In fact I have skated more since I have been in LA than in the last two months I was in England it has been great! So thing’s are starting to come together and we have filmed a lot of tight stuff for another skating vidcast coming soon. We are trying to fix the site to bring you this new Franco vidcast on Monday, but we also have more video and audio content planned. If you would like to contribute, help out in any way or feel you have something you would like to add please leave us a comment below. We also have a feedback tab on the left hand side where you can add your opinion to topics people would like addressing on Revival. I will try to bring more updates soon but the aim is to get you this content firstly. Sorry for the messy new website but hopefully you you read this I will have fixed it up how I inteded.

Oh and we also have a twitter account now so we can post quick easy updates to anyone who is interested. You can check out our updates at twitter.com/rollingrevival – subscribe!

Thanks to everyone who has kept an eye out for us,

Tim

I thought I should post a quick note as it has been a little while I know. I (Tim) was in LA few weeks ago, Adrian was here in the UK last week and I will be back in LA for a while as of next week. We have plans for new content, a new site in the works and more. But we don’t want to just bring you back the same thing – Revival was the first real rollerblading podcast and blog, since then so many others have followed suit. We check emails daily and are always looking for contributes who are willing to help in any way, we just want to make the next relaunch is something special which will be new for not only you, but for rolling in general.
Stay tuned,

Windy City Riot 2008

Those who came to the Windy City Riot this year got exactly what they’d expect. Interesting spots, run-ins with the police, sticky weather, amazing skating, wild after-parties –”all things blade”. Seven years running, the WCR has once again proven to be one of the best street contest to attend every summer in North America. The purse totaled just under a whopping $500.

This year the WCR returned to a two-day format. On the first day, everyone joined in a celebration of all things strange. The flatland contest was won by Justin “Jefferson” Augustus from Iowa. You may remember Jefferson as being one of the “most innovative” winners from years past. Then comes Antone. Anthony “Antone” Anderson (Chicago, IL) stole the high-jump title from the previously undefeated Paul John (cleared 53″ clean and 55.5″ with a brush on the pole), dunk contest (cannot explain in words) and tied the long jump contest with Matt Strobot (Cary, IL) at 223″. After all was said and done, the pre-contest proved to be one of the most exciting collection rollerblading moments of my life. We finished off the first day by skating a launch to metal planter. Too many kids to name skated amazingly however, it seems that Kruise Sapstein tore this spot harder than anyone else–especially after landing a fakie 540 topsoul to gap out. Many props to Kruise.

The beginning of day two was a “chest”. It was pouring rain and a huge event took place right near the meeting spot with forced the contest to be moved to, that’s right, lower wacker–Chicago’s depths of hell. We fashioned a launch ramp made of plywood to skate a high handicap rail. This was a great time until the biker cops rolled up and started giving everybody (myself included) $60 parking tickets. We, of course, moved on to the next spot. Walt Disney Magnet Elementary was a good solid spot with many skaters lacing tricks and many spectators yelling “Aaaaahhhh!”’s…as you should find in any good street contest. The nicest police officer in Chicago politely asked us to move on so we did. The final spot allowed for some interesting tricks to be done. This kink rail next to a ledge wrecked some and made a hero of others. Casey Bohrnell broke his ankle and John Adams may have broken his wrist. The contest proved to be a battle between Jeph Howard and Derek Larson. Derek landed the best trick of the contest by stalling the fence, dropping to a fakie roll on the ledge then dropping blind to top soul on the rail. For a better idea of what happened at the final spot, you’d have to see the footage. Here are the results:

1st – Jeph Howard (MN)
2nd – Derek Larson (MN)
3rd – Kruise Sapstein (IL)
4th – Logan Clark (IA)
5th – Brian Bruno (IL)

Best Trick- Derek Larson

“The Last Hurrah competition in Athens, OH did not go exactly as planned. After being kicked out of our three competition spots during warmups, and running out of options, the contest was cancelled and everyone agreed to just skate for fun and just have a good time. Enjoy my edit of the day, and I would like to thank Rolling Revival, Oke Clothing, and John Hoch for making the edit and event possible.”

The Last Hurrah 2008 Report

June 21, 2008

The day started out like any other for me…EARLY. Sleep in Saturday? Nope, woke up at 8:00 am to get ready to head down to Athens, Ohio for a day I had hoped to be filled with good times and good people.

Friends started to trickle in to the Athens City Skatepark around 11:00am. As each started to arrive I quickly learned that a good number came out to watch the contest. Only a few came to actually skate and be judged to win money. It was when I hit this wall of, What if I don’t have enough people show up? What will I do?” Thank goodness the REAL reason we all get together is to skate and share stories since we last saw one another. So making a decision to have the day end up being a session rather than competition was an easy adjustment for everyone that came out.

I still wanted to follow the same route of spots to make the day go by hopefully a little more smooth than just picking and choosing spots.  But thanks to “Johnny Law” they seemed to make the decisions for us. We were busted by Ohio University Police at the first spot, which were ledges underneath OU’s Music Building. So that took care of any other campus spots I had in mind. The second was located at Athens High School which was everyone’s favorite wavy handi-rail. Due to an Annual Bee Keepers Association meeting taking place our fun was put to a timely halt by one angry Bee Keeper. Luckily a couple of the girls with us made it out alive from their little hive in time with some honey from one nice old man who gladly gave to them for free, wish he had more pull in the bee hive than the ass that kicked us out.  So with us basically kicked out of Athens we hopped into our gas guzzling automobiles to ride ten miles up to Hocking College, our last hope. Within five minutes of everyone arriving and getting out of their cars Hocking College’s hope for a better tomorrow also known as the rent-a-cop came out to tell us the age old story, “I don’t care, but the people who sign my checks want you to leave.” So down but not out we huddled together to see if there was anything else left out there to skate because we had a good amount of sun light to burn. While our brains bounced ideas off one another, Dax tried to hop on with Hocking College’s construction crew, but was met with WTF expressions from the hardened men. Thankfully Jeff and Mike knew about some old rails underneath some over passes back in Athens. So once again we piled into our cars and drove back to Athens to skate a nice handi-rail on a bike path near the Hocking River. Other than the occasional bicycle enthusiast we had the little safe haven we had been looking for.

All day long people kept a positive attitude which is what kept us going when we were booted and banished for doing something we love and are passionate about. The way I see it, everyone won on that day. We did not let anything get in the way of our good time. It is always a wonderful experience to host an event like this. When I found out no one really wanted to skate in the contest I was a little hurt. But having my friends there helped me see it is not about a contest, judging people on who is better or not, it is about all of us getting together to have a good time and do what we love, skate.

When I first envisioned this event, I wanted it to be about people coming together from different walks of life to do something we all find enjoyment in. Contest are great, our sport has a good thing going with the AIL and they should be supported. So from here on out The Last Hurrah will fall on Labor Day weekend as originally intended. To be a weekend before life gets boggled down by obligations to work or school where we can meet up with friends and skate. No need for judges or prize money. No sponsor could ever dish out what we all got out of this past Saturday. We as rollerbladers never give up when faced with diversity. We were told not to skate. We did anyway.

See you next year!!

- Hoch

Ok guys Revival is rolling again! We just recorded a new show which will be up in the next 24 hours and we have much more planned. As I promised we are having Dave Paine come on the show to talk to us about what he has been up to – which I am sure a lot of you are exited about. This will be in the next two weeks as we want to give you guys some time to give us any questions you want us to ask. Here is a little note from Dave -

I still skate, I am engaged to a wonderful girl named Irene, I dj every weekend at the Air Conditioned Lounge here in LA (4 years residencey), and I am a Sr. Producer at Fuel TV (A 24 hours a day action sports channel from FOX) in charge of Events and Specials.

Keep your eyes on the site for lots to come, and if you want a question asking drop a comment on this post!
Tim.

Thanks to Alex Beaupre for the great filming and editing – Al breaks the skate down and covers the innovative new design piece by piece, and then Razors pro Don Bambrick shows us how to put them to good use.
Ok, bags are packed and we caravan 14 people in 2 cars. 5 Hour drive total from Chicago to Columbus. But of course, it wouldn’t be a rollerblading trip without rain and snow storms and lets not forget the ever-so-convenient flat tire and 3 hour towing service that ends up costing us $150 already and we have yet to arrive at the hotel.

We are now all at the hotel, have already setup the computer/editing studio in our room and are about to leave for the skatepark. Will upload many more images soon.
