  2. Frodo says:

Everyone has to forgive how dorky I sound. It had been a long night at the after party the night before. Collin can confirm this, haha.

That agressive skate that you can put the 72mm wheels on what was it called again. My ears aren’t perfect. Is it called the 228? I want to buy at least the frame :)

  4. Tim says:

this is the skate but the wheel wells in the midsoul mean it runs such a large wheel – putting it on other skates is not exactly the same.

  5. s243a says:

Well, if I must get the skate to go with it how the frames then I have some questions. I’ve hard complaints that rollerblade aggressive skates are too stiff. Of course most of those complaints apply to the rollerblade downtown skates. The TRS line of skates may be a much better. Most people get the rollerblade downtowns because they can’t afford a better skate.

I was looking for a skate like this before I even new someone was making one:

the skate is called the Point 8 and the new frame is called the Switch frame. the skate drops in early ’08 and should retail around $230. adding wheelwells to other skates isn’t too hard if you have a Dremel tool or a bench grinder, i’ve done it to several different skates over the years. i set up some Vinny Mintons a couple years ago with Bullet frames that i’d dremeled out to accept the old oval-shaped Salo frame spacers, vertically oriented, and wheelwells in the souls/boots; i had 60mm 4×4’s riding at about the same height as a 52mm set up normally.

the “slammed”/wheelwell concept is something i’ve wanted to see put into production for many years, it just makes sense. i do think this skate swings a little too far to the other extreme with the height; i think that around 60mm from your frame channel to the ground (what most normal frames nowadays ride at) is about as tall as you can get without the extra leverage affecting stability and maneuverability… by my calculations, assuming a 5mm wheelwell (about all the TRS mids could allow for) the channel-to-ground height on this Switch frame will be about 68mm.

but with even 5mm wheelwells you could go up to a 64mm wheel, and maintain the same 30mm channel-to-ground ride height as a normal aggressive frame (30 or 31mm channel-to-axle, 58mm wheel) setup….. which would still offer huge benefits without making the skate ride any different in terms of leverage on your ankles.
